Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration
Some tips that are frequently used in air-conditioning and refrigeration:
- One Ton of Refrigeration (TR) is equal to :
3024 Kcal / h,
3.51 kW or
12000 Btu/ h
- COP (Coefficient of Performance)
COP is called Coefficient of Performance which is a standard method of measuring refrigeration efficiency of an ideal refrigeration system which depends on two key system temperatures, namely, Evaporator temperature Te and Condenser temperature Tc :
= COP => Te / Tc - Te
COP of air cooled chiller < COP of water cooled chiller
COP of air cooled chiller can be improved by adiabatic cooling/ fogging system - this process cools the condenser tubes thereby reducing compressor work (energy consumption).
- Relation between COP, kW/TR and EER
1) kW/TR = 3.516/COP
2) kW/TR = 12/ EER
3) COP = 0.293 * EER or
EER = 3.413* COP
