  1. To help reduce heat loss, always insulate hot water pipes, especially where they run through unheated areas. Never insulate plastic pipes.
  1. Iron clothes and linen all in one go. Do not keep a hot iron which is switched in an upright position for long period since more heat will be lost.
  1. Avoid storing hot / warm food in the refrigerator.
  1. Use of white or light colours for interior walls, ceilings, curtains, drapes and furniture reflects more light within the building and therefore further reduces the cost of lighting.
  1. If your refrigerator is not frost-free, defrost it regularly. Auto defrost refrigerators consume more electricity. The larger the refrigerator, the higher will be the usage of electricity.
  1. Reduce lighting where possible and take advantage of natural daylight.
  1. Clean or vacuum the refrigerator coils at least twice a year.
  1. Install a low-flow showerhead.
  1. Maintain the water heater by draining the sediment at least once a year.
  1. Make sure the door gaskets on freezers and refrigerators fit tightly.
  1. Look for energy efficient appliances when shopping.
  1. Read the manuals for your home appliances. They may offer more specific instructions for saving energy.

Exterior lighting is the integral part of any building type and this is to enable ease assess to all the occupant and also to each and every individual who visit building. The exterior lighting level is well defined by the ASHRAE 90.1, that also include exterior lighting for the variety of buildings. Brief summary is as follows:

Facade lighting :
paving               :

Landscape         :
For more, please refer section xx of ASHRAE 90.1 - 2010.
1. Stand by equipment consume power
In general, we are equipped with laptop/palm top/ipad/ipod, mobile/ cell phone and camera charger/ adapter, projector, printer, scanner etc. consume power even in stand-by mode. For efficient use, before we leave workstation, switch-off all such equipment/ devices

are not plugged to particular device.

2. Cleaning of FTL and Fluorescent Bulbs
It is very important to clean FTL (Fluorescent Tube Light) and Fluorescent Bulbs regularly. Once dust is get deposited, illuminance level reduces and we try to increase lighting level. So dust them our frequently or with a time frame.

3. Select Energy Efficient Lighting fixtures
when-ever, where-ever possible, energy efficient lighting fixture should be installed. Incandescent lamp to CFL, to LED ones. This would enable reduction in energy and also higher hife of illuminaire. As evident that CFL and FTL converts electricity into light about 5 times more than the bulb.

4. It is also revealed that 90 % of the energy consumption of an incandescent lamp released into heat and 10 % provides light. Later, this heat has to be removed by air-conditioning units. Selection of energy efficient lighting fixture can reduce lighting energy consumpation and also save significant operation cost of air-conditioner.

5. Reducing temperature settings of Electric Geyser or Heater can also reduce significant energy (Lets say - temperature from 55 deg C to 48 Deg C or even less which is very comfortable for bath).

6. Proper insulation for chilled water pipes, Ducts and hot water pipelilnes can reduce loss of cooling and heating.
