Green Buildings

At the outset, green buildings are Eco-Friendly Buildings and offer tremendous tangible & intangible benefits to building stakeholders such as :

Tangible benefits

Intangible benefits

1. Better indoor environmental conditions
2. Productivity improvement
3. Heath & well-beings

Due to climatic concerns, at present, more focus has been given to green buildings as building sector is responsible for 40% energy consumption of the the world and also contribute to 40% of green house gas (GHG) emission.
Green building certification programmes are launched by various green building council such as US GBC (Green Building Council), India GBC, Canada GBC, Australia GBC etc. All the green building councils have built-environment specific Green Building Certification Rating System which are mainly used as reference document for Green Building Certification.

Mainly all these certification rating system/ programmes have defined needs & requirement for

1. Site related features
2. Water efficiency
3. Energy efficiency
4. Material & resources
5. Indoor Environmental Quality

There rating programmes define
1. Mandatory/ prerequisite requirement : it means to attempt mandatorily and also qualify
2. Credit points: these are choices to building owner or project

Based on project requirement & aspiration of rating system, credit points are attempted which lead to particular rating system to project such as
