Sustainability Houses Attention,
Demonstrates Competency and Leaves a Legacy

Dr Shivraj Dhaka, Senior Counsellor, Indian Green Building Council (IGBC),

Our existence is made by the five elements of Nature e.g., Water, Earth, Air. Fire and Akasha which are again the fundamental requirements of Green Buildings. Considering climatic conditions (and future concerns), there is an urgent need to implement green measures with a great degree of passion and commitment. For this to happen, spreading environmental awareness is the key. Our experiences witnessed; motivation, encouragement, inspiration and finally the awareness can lead many serious deployments which in fact can transform businesses keeping a good balance between industrialization and sustainability.

Knowledge in the frontier areas inspired me to work with the stakeholders in achieving shared goals. Destruction e.g., a mountain destroyed (consumed) today, even we work countlessly together for centuries, even then there is no power to build it back; it is not only the destruction we made in the hard rock, nevertheless it has also resulted climate change (micro-climate and biodiversity) and finally left our footprint for the next generation about our greed and destruction. CII offers a wide array of opportunities to serve stakeholders, inspires them to save the planet for the whole eco-system.

There is a dire need to create an eco-system for sustainability in all spaces (Buildings, Built Environment & industries); policies shall be reformed, must be more stringent for better businesses however smooth regulatory framework shall be deployed with more strong Quality Standards and monitoring framework to achieve sustainable goals. Mitigation measures to climate risks shall only be the priority for Government and the Businesses. While having clean, green and solutions towards carbon neutrality; there are immense challenges including 1) inadequate capacity building of leaders (top-down), 2) skilling of workforce (bottom-up), 3) lack of synch between age old policies and new targets in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy, water, waste, carbon and climate policies and 4) green financing/investment.

I am sure, new initiatives and attractive policies of Rajasthan Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) would promote circularity in all businesses and set a new trajectory to spur and achieve sustainable growth in the years to come.

Wish you all a great World Environment Day 2023 !

This year we commit to plant Trees for our family members. A fully matured tree absorbs about 20 kg of Co2 per year.
